Greece is a wonderful holiday destination in its own right. Natural beauty, island location, a large dose of sunshine and incredible history attract millions of tourists every year. What are the most important places to visit? What to pay attention to? We suggest.
The island that shows the Greek landscape diversity. Juicy greenery corresponds with the beauty of the local beaches. Sandy descents to the sea, directly created for bathing, here are adjacent to the cliff coast and rocky rocks
Despite a fairly good hotel base with resorts offering additional attractions, tourism on this small island is not as mass tourism as in many other locations. Renting a car to thoroughly explore the island gives good results. Be sure to visit the atmospheric town of Corfu, Agni Bay, Cape Drastis or the Vlacherna Monastery. Very often, visiting Corfu is combined with trips to Albania.
One of the most wonderful Greek islands, which is included in the Ionian Islands. Unfortunately, it is also one of the most popular vacation destinations, but it may be worth putting up with the greater congestion during the season to experience the beauty of the landscapes here. The Bay of Wrecks, the Blue Grottoes, the Byzantine Museum and of course the all inclusive hotel offer attract a lot of tourists and it is hardly surprising.
Attractions are also not lacking in Crete, which is not only incredibly beautiful, but is the cradle of one of the oldest civilizations. So you can combine here the love of blissful relaxation with the pull to be a tourist-historian. Thinking of Crete as a nature paradise, one cannot fail to mention the Balsalos Lagoon
Beautiful views, however, is not everything – you can indulge in water sports here, led by diving. An even greater showcase of the island is the palace at Knossos. It is at the same time one of the most valuable remnants of ancient history in Europe. Suffice it to say that the first settlements appeared here as early as 9 thousand years BC, but it is the palace from around 2000 BC that is of particular interest. It is, of course, associated with the legend of the famous King Minos
Also worth a visit to the Archaeological Museum, which will give a more detailed description of the Minoan culture. Very charming is also the capital of the island, Heraklion. Similarly interesting location in Crete is Chania with its many temples and interesting views.
The Colossus of Rhodes, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, has not been preserved on Rhodes, but there is still much to see, both in terms of historical monuments and natural beauty. Both the town of Rhodes and the tourist town of Lindos with its monuments are inviting. The headland of Prasonisi is in turn a real Mecca for water sports enthusiasts.
Could not miss here, of course, the capital of Greece, Athens. This is the direction proposed when someone very much wants to visit and is interested in the recent and above all ancient history of Hellada
There are, after all, monuments that have literally become the heritage of all mankind. It is about the famous Acropolis of Athens, but also other locations associated with ancient history and the heritage of all mankind, such as the Areopagus and the Athenian Agora with its numerous temples. Of course, a visit to the National Archaeological Museum and the National Garden is also not to be missed.
